Materials

Straw

Grain straw is used in biogas plants. The material is also used in the form of straw pellets for alternative heat generation. Straw is the primary material used in the production of bioethanol.

Start-up lumps

The processing and recycling of waste from the plastics processing industry is economically attractive due to the savings in costs for new raw materials. Plastics processors can enable a consistent quality. This issue is significant when using engineering plastics with the highest mechanical properties since they are costly to produce.

Production waste

More and more plastics processing companies that manufacture a wide variety of plastic products are taking advantage of the opportunity to return production and process waste to the internal cycle. This saves raw material costs, plus the disposal costs for external recycling plants.

Domestic waste

Residual waste is optimally handled by shredding it in mechanical-biological waste treatment plants (MBT) and separating the various recyclable materials from each other. Another use of residual waste is thermal utilisation in a waste incineration plant. The heat released is used both to generate electricity and to provide heat.

Lightweight packaging

Increasing the recycling rate of packaging with the aim of recycling more valuable materials than before is a key issue in the circular economy. In order to efficiently recycle the packaging collected in bags, this waste must be continuously and reliably sorted.

Hard plastic

In contrast to the processing of lightweight packaging, which is primarily well organised today, hard plastics were still often thermally recycled in the past. However, the recycling rate of these materials is now also increasing thanks to optimised treatment processes.

Pre-Products

The recycling of plastics which are expensive to produce due to their technical properties and are often used to manufacture semi-finished products offers some potential savings for manufacturing companies. However, clean separation of the different plastics is a prerequisite. The pure regranulate obtained can then be used to produce sophisticated plastic components.

Coconut shells

Briquettes made from coconut shells burn longer than wood and can be used in crop-growing countries to replace wood from life-sustaining forests. The material is also suitable for use as a fuel in biomass plants and boiler plants. The fibres in coconut shells have excellent insulating properties and are used to this end.

Film

Waste generated during production should, if possible, be returned directly to the internal production cycle without any losses or loss of quality. If such in-house recycling is not possible due to company-specific constellations, external recycling companies can also process film waste.

Bulky waste

Bulky waste chiefly includes discarded furniture, mattresses, wallpaper remnants and old carpets. Nowadays, most bulky waste can be recycled for materials and energy.

Grasses

Some grasses, such as miscanthus and switchgrass, are called biomass grasses because of the large amounts of biogas they can produce.

Big bags and bulk material containers

In order to return extremely tear-resistant plastic fabrics such as big bags to the production cycle, they have to be processed. The key component for this is the shredder. The more efficient the shredder, the safer the subsequent processes. With Vecoplan, these robust and often contaminated connective tissues can be efficiently processed.

Paper industry waste

Braids, spits, bears or fibre residues are the recyclable residues in paper recycling. The technical jargon under the collective term: pulper waste. As a leading specialist for shredding technology, we know what is important in this application. Pulper waste is diverse. The plastic it contains can be used thermally. The metal wires but also existing non-ferrous metal can be reused as recycling material.

Industrial waste

Commercial municipal waste (also abbreviated to commercial waste) is municipal waste from sources other than private households, in particular commercial and industrial waste as well as waste from private and public institutions. This waste is similar to waste from private households due to its nature or composition and must be disposed of in the same way.

However, commercial municipal waste also includes other production-specific waste from other sources, such as workshop waste, cleaning rags containing mineral oil, paint buckets or non-infectious waste, leather waste, metal waste, including shavings from metalworking and metal processing.

Residual forest wood

Residual forest wood is often the raw material for mulch, but it is also used as animal feed. In addition, it is used as fuel in biomass CHP plants (combined heat & power plants).

Film

Regranulates can be created as secondary raw materials from packaging, agricultural film, composite film, etc. The treatment process for this includes shredding technology, separation and sorting technology, washing and subsequent extrusion.

Wood chips

Wood chips are used in the manufacture of chipboard and medium-density fibre (MDF) boards. They are also used as fuel in heating plants, in combined heat and power plants and in gardening and landscaping.

Packaging

As the demand for high-quality regranulates increases, closed-loop recycling is playing an increasingly important role in the material recovery of plastics, and this is why shredding is a critical process step since it is a preliminary stage for the subsequent sorting of recyclable materials.

Used tyres

Rubber is a versatile material due to its properties. The best known and largest product in terms of volume is the tyre. In addition to thermal recycling as substitute fuel, for example in cement plants, used tyres can also be recycled, e.g. the granulate obtained can be used for a wide variety of floor coverings.

Straw bales

Direct feeding of entire strawballs to shredders for downstream processes in energy and materials recovery offers several advantages. The work of unravelling the strawballs in advance is no longer necessary. Systems for the storage, conveyance and metred feeding round off the product portfolio for processing technology.

Rubber and rubber residues

Natural rubber is the basis of all rubber products and is a valuable natural raw material, so the aim here is to achieve the highest possible recycling rate through material recovery. However, the parts that cannot be further processed can still be used as an adequate fuel in cement production.

Green waste

Green waste is used as co-substrates for soil improvement and is increasingly incinerated for energy in biogas plants. Coarser fractions of wood can also be made into mulch.

Wood and milling chips

Planing and milling chips are usually reground and then used as insulation material or, for example, in the production of pellets.

Sorting residues

In sorting plants for light packaging (LVP), the packaging items pass through various packaging items pass through various stations, at each of which a specific fraction of the material is sorted out of the material flow. Pressed into bales, the individual material fractions are then sent for recycling. Waste designation Sorting residues: Sorting residues from facilities for sorting lightweight packaging, so-called DSD sorting residues. These can be processed into alternative fuels in substitute fuel processing plants.

Hollow body containers

As the demand for the use of recyclates made from polyolefins – especially HDPE and PP – is constantly increasing, the collection and processing of these containers are also playing an increasingly important role. Here we must ensure that we adapt our machines and plants to the requirements of the materials.

Waste wood, used wood

Wood waste or even old pallets can be used as a renewable raw material for energy production. Effective processing is essential to produce a waste-based RDF.
